Walter Chandoha Obituary

Walter was born on November 30, 1920 and passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019. Walter was a resident of New Jersey at the time of passing. And then one snowy evening on the way home from classes, he found a grey kitten in the snow, put him in the pocket of his army mackinaw and brought him home as a gift to his wife, Maria. In lieu of flowers, kindly send any donations to either of the following: The Quakertown Fire Company, 67 Quakertown Rd, Pittstown, NJ 08867 or St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, PO Box 5281, North Branch NJ 08876.

When I was a child we had a particular coffee table book. In that coffee table book, The Best of Life, a hardcover selection of photos both awful and wonderful, there was a picture of a little girl with her cat. The corner of that page, the one with the little girl and her cat, was so well worn because I kept coming back to look at it over and over again.

It was me - with my cat. It was happy and it was sweet, and it made me happy.
