Walter “Gene” Cook, age 85, passed away peacefully at his residence in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Monday, March 16, 2026. He was born on October 12, 1940, in Baton Rouge, LA.
Gene served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class (E4). He was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He loved spending his free time playing golf and talking about his travels to different parts of the world. Above all else, he loved his family and will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter “Jay” and Lola Cook; and his brothers, Tommy Cook and Terry Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Wallace Cook; daughter, Laura Cook; son, Alan Cook (Rena); grandchildren, Cody Matte, Halen Crochet, Mason Cook, Zoie Laurent (Lewis), Jessica Wheat (Derek), and Kristi Lavigne; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Matte, Adley and Reed Laurent, and Leland, Breanne, and Cade Wheat; sister, Darla Lambert (Jules); and brother, Jimmy Cook.
Funeral Services officiated by Pastor Wayne Austin will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026. A Visitation will be held beginning at 1:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Honoring Gene as pallbearers are Cody Matte, Halen Crochet, Mason Cook, Derek Wheat, Lewis Laurent, and Jules Lambert.
