Walter Gilbert Fournier, Sr.

Walter G. Fournier, Sr. of AuSable Forks, NY went to be with the love of his life, Linda, who passed on July 1, 2024, on Sunday, December 29, 2024 surrounded by his loving and devoted family by his side.

Walt was the youngest of nine, born on July 28, 1946 to Wilfred and Jennie (Lafountain) Fournier of Peasleeville, NY. Walter attended school at Peru Central School.

Left to remember Walter, are his children and their spouses, Maggie Fournier-Pope (Jerry Marking), Michelle (Jody) Perkins, Wendy (Aaron) Connell, Walter (Jody) Fournier, Jr. and Vickie (Kevin) Hart; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Walter, also known as Pop, Papa and Poppy Walt was a man of great integrity and pride. There is nothing he would not do for his family - whether it was working two jobs, in what would be the most labor-intensive occupations such as farming, logging, heavy equipment operator or just working in his garage puttering. If one asked any of his employers - they would all agree that the "mold" was broke with him when it came to work ethic - he always gave 110% at all he did!

Several years ago, Walt was diagnosed with Alzheimer's - a disease that robs one of their memories! Every day and until the end - we always talked about memories whether it be ten, forty or fifty years ago - he always smiled and told us stories we had never heard before as if it happened yesterday. Dad - we will continue to honor you by talking about our family memories.

He is preceded in death by his parents - Wilfred and Jennie; parents-in-law - Henry and Martha Nelson; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis, Charles (Mary), and Louis (Sally) Fournier, sisters Marie (Farrell) Reed, Grace (Ted) Nelson, Lena (Burt) Rondeau, Maude (Sam) Coon, Margaret Fournier, son-in-law Mark N. Pope, in laws Jack (Julia) and Tom (Marge) Nelson, several nieces and nephews.

In honoring Walter's memory, visitation will be Wednesday, January 1, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, Au Sable Forks. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 10:00 am at Holy Name Church. He will be laid to rest immediately following the service at his family plot in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Black Brook, NY. A reception will be held at the Fournier Homestead at 372 Silver Lake Rd, AuSable Forks, NY. Family and friends are welcome to join us.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's memory to Hospice of the North Country - Plattsburgh or the Alzheimer's Association.
