Walter Goins Obituary
Mr. Walter D. Goins, age 96 of LaFollette passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Mr. Goins served as a Campbell County School Board Member for 24 years, many of those as Chairman. He loved to see children succeed, and for many years gifted students from Valley View Elementary with perfect attendance silver dollars. For his longtime dedication, the Valley View Gymnasium was named in his honor. Mr. Goins was a lifelong farmer and raised tobacco, grew watermelons, apples, and many other fruits and vegetables. He was also an accomplished stone mason, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by Wife, Mrs. Azlee (Williams) Goins, Daughter, Shirley Jean Goins, Brother, Whit Goins, Sisters, Nannie Ivey and Lorna Ridenour.
He is survived by his Children, Rhonda Longmire (Jesse), Dr. Rita Goins (Patrick Smith), Allen Goins (Chris), Jan Jones (Mark), David Goins (Mary Michelle), and Terri Alley (Jason); Grandchildren, Brandon Longmire, Brooke Dorton, Eric Goins, April Rhyne, Shakira Goins, Hunter Bo Goins, and Bayli Alley; Great-Grandchildren, Eli, Ethan, and William Dorton, and Aizlee Rhyne; Brother, Wallace Goins (Minnie); Sister, Marty Meredith; Sisters-in-law, Beatrice Goins and Pat Graves; Many Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Caregivers Joe McDowell, Marilyn Davidson, and Felicia Mehki, and the Nurses and staff of UT Hospice for their wonderful care of Mr. Goins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Walters Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, 11:00 AM at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Goins and Rev. Ronnie Poston officiating. Interment will follow at Victory Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: CASA, P.O. Box, 1054, Jacksboro, TN 37757 or at www.casaofcampbellcounty.org. Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Walter D. Goins.
