Walter K. Greenwood

1946 - 2023

Glens Falls
Our beloved Walter K. Greenwood, 76, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Glens Falls Hospital. Walter was loved and respected by many, he was a role model and pillar of our family. We always told him that when he was born they broke the mold.
He came to this world on September 23, 1946, in Whitehall, and was the son of the late Walter J. and Helen M. (Blanchard) Greenwood.
Walter was a graduate from Whitehall Central School class of 1964 where he was a photographer for the school newspaper. His love of photography continued on through his life and travels leaving us with numerous slides, negatives and photos to relive those special moments he captured.
After graduation, Walter became a construction worker until 1966 when he was drafted into the United States
Army. Upon completion of his Nuclear Weapons Artillery Training in Fort Sill Oklahoma, he was assigned to
the 82nd Engineering Battalion in Bamberg, Germany. There he received additional training in nuclear
weapons assembly at the US Army School in Oberammergau, Germany where he was awarded a Superior
Student designation (Nuclear Weapons Forward Assembly Technician) In 1968, Walter was Honorably
Discharged with National Defense and Good Conduct medals.
Walter first met the love of his life, Nancy Borlang, on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. On September
20, 1969, they were wed at St. Mary's Church in Hudson Falls. Along their journey they enjoyed attending and watching Yankee games, long walks on the beaches of Cape Cod and cherished times spent with their daughter and grandchildren.
Walter was a well-known and respected Resident Engineer working for Boswell Engineering for 40+ years.
Upon his retirement in 2011, he and his wife relocated to the Adirondacks to enjoy adventures with his family.
Walter spent countless hours compiling documents and photos on our family's ancestry which he left as part of his legacy for future generations.
In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his siblings, Judy Dockum (Charley), and Ernest "Skip"
Greenwood; father-in-law, Olai Borlang.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Nancy Greenwood; daughter, Gretchen Greenwood
Trombley; grandchildren, Jordan Trombley and Dylan Trombley; brother, James Greenwood (Michelle);
mother-in-law, Marjorie Borlang; sister-in-law, Pat Greenwood, and Jan Sherlock (Mark); along with Addie
Borlang, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At the family's request there will be no calling hours or services.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
