Walter Thomas Gronek Jr., 81, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed peacefully at home with family on Saturday evening, October 28, after a short battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2nd in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
Walt was born on July 5, 1942, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Walter "Red" Gronek Sr. and Mary Kaszuba. He served in the Navy and was a Merchant Marine. In 1973, he began working at Union Pacific Railroad and he married Barbara in 1975.
Two sons preceded him in death, Jason and Jerry.
Survivors include wife Barbara, daughter Jami, son John (Tracy), sister Kathy Fisher, brothers John (Kathy) and Tom (Teri), and several nieces and nephews.
The last 33 years, Walt enjoyed his farm in Hale, MO. He never knew a stranger and loved spending time with his many friends.

I knew Walter for several years. He lived up the road from me in Hale. He was always great to talk to and gave me kids gifts like football cards and baseball cards. I will greatly miss him.

Walter was the type of neighbor who made you feel welcomed, protected, and was always helpful. His salsas he made was the best. My condolences to Barbara and kids.
