HENDRICKS, Walter Lee "Karo" Sr., was born to Sonie and Elizabeth Hendricks on June 21, 1931, in Warren County, N.C. In the comfort of his home on Saturday, January 10, 2009, Walter went home peacefully to be with God. Educated in the public school system, Karo moved to Richmond at the age of 20. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sonie and Elizabeth Hendricks; one brother, Leroy Hendricks; and his son, Walter L. Hendricks Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 54 years, Louise B. Hendricks; one daughter, Rev. Dr. Wynee H. Jackson; two granddaughters, two brothers, four sisters, and a host of loving friends and relatives. A member of Cedar Street Baptist Church of God, and longtime employee of Philip Morris Tobacco Co., Karo was known to many. Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Street Baptist Church of God, 2301 Cedar St. Dr. Anthony M. Chandler Sr. officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service.
