Walter John Kuszaj, Jr. 80, of West Suffield passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at home. Born July 23, 1943 in Hartford, son of the late Walter John Kuszaj and Mary C. (Ploszaj) Kuszaj, he had lived in West Suffield for over 50 years and was an usher at Sacred Heart Church. He worked with his father at Kuszaj Millwork Co. in Weatogue, CT before he retired. Walt worked with wood most of his life and he especially loved his boats. If he wasn't on the water, he was building or fixing one, waterskiing in his younger years. He was a good friend, a compassionate soul and always a smile and a helping hand. Walt enjoyed sitting at his gazebo or on his porch overlooking Lake Congamond.
He is survived by a daughter, Pam Viets of Key Largo, FL; a son Walter John Kuszaj, III of West Suffield; a sister, Christine Wall and her husband, David of Simsbury; four grandchildren, Matthew John Lefemine and his wife, Brie, Bethany Ballard and her husband, Sean, Christopher Kuszaj, Molly Kuszaj; the mother of his grandchildren, Lori Lefemine; a dear friend, Pat Susca, his cat Pinkie and his niece, 5 nephews, 3 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Sterling Viets, sister Diane K. Sommerer and brother-in-law John P. Sommerer.
His family will receive friends on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Rd., Suffield. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
