Mr. Walter Leland Morris (MSGT, U.S. Army, Ret.) age 89, a resident of the Millstone Mountain Community of Rockwood, TN passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville, Tennessee. He was born July 15, 1935, in Millstone in Cumberland County, Tennessee. During his early years, he spent much time working around the house and in the woods, sawmilling and logging with his Dad. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and retired in 1974 as Master Sergeant after 20 years of dedicated service, a career that he was very proud of. During his career, he traveled to 12 foreign countries, one of those being Vietnam, where he served with the Green Baret Special Forces for 3 tours during the Vietnam War. A highly decorated Veteran, he was awarded many medals and honors during his career, including the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Parachute Badge / Jump Wings with over 200 jumps, Ranger Tab, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Master Parachute Badge, and the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Following his retirement from the military he was a self-employed Truck Driver and hobby farmer. He was a member of the Daysville Baptist Church in Rockwood and was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Will & Lottie Morris; sister, Mable Hennager; brother, Zack Morris; step grandson, James D. Perkins; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Grandson: Justin Morris (Kristian Bartlett)
Step Granddaughter: Marie Carter (Roger)
7 Great Grandchildren
3 Great-Great Grandchildren
Special Friend: Linda “Sue” Smith
And several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 24, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the Evans Mortuary. Funeral services will follow on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary with Rev. Hascue Carter officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Daysville Cemetery in Rockwood, (Cumberland County), Tennessee with full military honors by the U.S. Army. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, Tennessee is serving the family of Mr. Walter Leland Morris (MSGT, U.S. Army, Ret.).
