HAVERHILL, MA – Walter S. Paszko, age 88, a lifelong resident of Haverhill passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Sherene (Fowler) Paszko.
He was born on December 20, 1935 in Haverhill, MA and was the son of the late John and Franciszka (Ryczko) Paszko. He was the youngest of their 9 children.
Walter was a 1954 graduate of Essex County Agricultural School in Danvers, MA. Walter proudly enlisted into the US Army soon after graduating from Essex Aggie, serving as a meat and dairy inspector. Shortly after his honorable discharge, he became a Haverhill Firefighter. In 1974 Walter was promoted to lieutenant, the rank he held for the remainder of his 32 year career.
Born into a farming family, Walter took an early interest in vegetable growing. Throughout his life he raised sweet corn as a cash crop on his plot of land on Lowell Avenue in Haverhill, and maintained a large garden at his home in Rocks Village. He shared the fruits of his labors with family, friends and neighbors, and up until recently sold tomatoes, cucumbers and pumpkins from his front yard.
He is survived by his son Walter R. Paszko and his wife Laurie, his grandchildren Jessica Paszko and Ethan Paszko all of Merrimac, MA, his son-in-law Charles Millett of Key West, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was sadly predeceased by his children Stefan Paszko and Tanya Millett, and his six brothers and two sisters: Veronica, Doris, Joseph, William, Stanley, John, Michael and Zigmund.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 4pm – 7pm at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will be held Saturday at 10am in the chapel at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's cemetery in Haverhill, MA.
