“This tribute merely scratches the surface of the extraordinary man he was, and the indelible mark he left on the lives of so many”.
Walter Lee Sills, age 73, of Erie, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025.
He was born in Erie on November 20, 1951, a son of the late Bill and Audrey Toomey Sills.
Walter graduated from McDowell High School and went on to serve in the United States Army. After being discharged from the Army, he worked at General Electric as a painter until his retirement.
He was a member of Delaware Avenue Baptist church and later attended First Alliance Church with his daughter and son-in-law.
Walter loved fishing, going to South Erie Turners and the casino. He was incredibly funny and witty and was a “man of leisure”. He would always say “when I get to heaven, I’m going to sit by a pond with 2 chairs and 2 fishing poles, and whoever wants to, can come over and fish with me”!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon.
He is survived by two daughters, Amanda (Jim) and Angie (George); a granddaughter, Ashleigh (Wyatt); two grandsons, Joshua and Aiden; a great-grandson, Josh Jr.; two brothers, Duane and Jimmy, sister, Joyce; his good friend, Doug Ebert and several nieces and nephews.
