Walter Eugene Spencer, known to his friends as 'Ace' passed away at his home in Los Lunas, New Mexico on September 25, 2023.
He was born June 21, 1937 on a farm near McIntosh, New Mexico in the Estancia Valley to Lewis Vernon Spencer and Dorothy May (Brown) Spencer.
When Ace was 15, he moved with his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico because his father got a job there. Several years of drought forced them to leave the farm.
Ace loved racing cars and often competed with his father racing stock cars at Speedway Park in Albuquerque. His favorite place was behind the wheel. He loved to drive. He went camping and took road trips.
Ace's first married Kay (Hathorne) Spencer. They had three daughters: Tracie Spencer, Linda Spencer and Mary Ellen Spencer. His second marriage was to Dorothy (Mims) Spencer. They had one daughter together, Cindy Spencer.
Ace worked as a mechanic and salesman. He sold cars and recreational vehicles. He owned an automotive shop and had a home business rebuilding engines and tractors.
Ace was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Lucille Timmons Spencer, his father, Lewis Vernon Spencer; sisters Janet-Nelle Spencer, Shirley Spencer, Margaret DeMoss and Irene Thein; daughters Linda (Spencer) Conway and Mary Ellen Spencer.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Spencer of Los Lunas, NM; daughters Cindy Spencer, also of Los Lunas, Tracie Spencer, of Las Cruces, NM; brother Don Spencer of Frisco, TX; sister, Karen of Albuquerque, NM, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service is at 10:00 am on November 16, 2023 at Heights First Church of the Nazarene in Albuquerque. The address is 8401 Paseo Del Norte NE. A committal service will follow at Estancia Memorial Cemetery.
