Walter "Wally" Stock Jr.
May 18, 1943 - October 25, 2025
Walter "Wally" Stock Jr., age 82, of Mauston, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025, surrounded by family.
Wally was born on May 18, 1943, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Walter Sr. and Helen (Chimelewski) Stock. He grew up in Summerhill, Pennsylvania, and graduated from high school before moving to Chicago, Illinois, where he met and married Monica (Krupa) Stock. They shared 56 years together.
He worked for many years as a system analyst in downtown Chicago. Though he spent decades in the city, his dream was a quiet country life, which he realized upon retirement by building his dream home and enjoying nearly 20 years of peaceful retirement in Wisconsin.
Wally proudly served in the United States Army in a communications role. During his service, he was recruited to play football for Fort Hood and received both the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
A passionate fisherman, Wally especially loved musky fishing on the Wisconsin chain of lakes, a pursuit he followed with dedication for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, watching wildlife and birds in his yard, and spending time with his pets, his chihuahua Luna and rescued cat Kitty. A man of steady habits, he took great pride in keeping his lawn looking freshly mowed.
Wally was a loving father and grandfather who treasured his family. He is survived by his wife, Monica; his daughters Catherine (Daniel) Fleming and Theresa (Jennifer) Sroka Stock; and his grandchildren, Tessa and Reed Fleming. He is also survived by his brother, Stanley Stock; his sister, Jeanne (Stock) Garanich; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his dearly beloved parents.
The family will hold a private gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at
