Walter K. Stone III, known affectionately as "Walt" to his friends and loved ones, passed away on December 18, 2023, at the age of 75, in Red Bank, New Jersey. He was born on December 29, 1947, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, and throughout his life, he was known as a man of intelligence, with an unquenchable desire to understand how the world worked. This quest for understanding the world around him was a testament to his analytical nature. Walt attended Hofstra University in New York for 2 years where he studied Physics. After his time at Hofstra, Walt honorably served his country as a veteran of the Army. Upon returning to civilian life, Walt embarked on a career as a computer programmer; an ideal career choice for someone with his natural aptitude for technology and meticulous attention to detail.
He is survived by his devoted spouse, Martha Stone, and his son Matthew Stone. Walt's spirit is also reflected in the lives of his siblings: Linda Stone, Marcia Stone, and William Stone, all of whom he shared an unbreakable bond with. His nieces Samantha Wirth, Alix Taylor, Lindsey Stone, Stephanie Stone, and Jennifer Stone, along with his nephew Jesse Wirth, will remember him as an uncle who always encouraged their inquisitive minds.
He remained an avid reader throughout his life, with a particular interest in politics, science fiction, medicine, automobiles, home repair and all things mechanical. Walt's interests reflected a mind that was always curious and eager to explore new realms of knowledge
Walt's intelligence was matched only by his practical skills; he was incredibly handy. He had a knack for fixing anything that was broken and enjoyed the challenge of finding solutions to the most perplexing of problems.
Walt's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of intelligence, dedication, and resourcefulness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his life. Though Walt's life was cut short by heart disease, his impact on the people around him was enduring. His family takes comfort in the memories of his unwavering support, his passion for knowledge, and the countless ways he enriched their lives. His spirit, characterized by his love for discovery and understanding, will continue to live on through the stories shared by those who loved him and the many lives he touched.
As we bid farewell to Walt, we celebrate a life marked by accomplishment, curiosity, and a genuine love for the world around him. He was a beacon of knowledge and a pillar of strength for his family, who will continue to honor his memory by embodying the values he held dear. Walt's journey may have come to an end, but the lessons he taught us and the love he gave us will remain forever.
