Walter Thacker Obituary
A native of Virginia he was the son of Walter D. Thacker, Sr. and Doris Hall Thacker, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Deeann Dillon; and brother, Christopher J. Thacker.
He was a talented football kicker for Jefferson High School. Walter retired from UPS after 37 years of service as a truck driver. He was of the Christian faith. Walter was a talented welder and woodworker. He loved the teamsters union and his tractors and equipment.
Walter loved his family, friends, and dog. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 17 years, Kathy Thacker; his best friend and dog, Sammy; sisters, Angie Thacker and Sandy Blair; beloved nephew, Evan Niday; nephew, Cole Keister; niece, Valerie Dillon; and many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 from 10:00 until 11:00 am. A graveside service will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park at 11:00 am with Chaplain JT Clark officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity that supports mental health awareness.
