Walter Wasko Jr.
age 88, of Butternut, died on Wednesday October 8, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center in Park Falls. He was born on May 28, 1937, in Butternut, the son of Walter Sr. and Genevieve (Palachowsky) Wasko. He was a graduate of the Butternut High School and later in life earned a degree in Fisheries and Biology from University of Wisconsin Superior. After graduating high school, he worked for a time in Chicago and then served his country in the United States Air Force before returning to Butternut. On December 30, 1978, he married Sharon Hoefferle-Pohle in Butternut. Walter worked for the Wisconsin DNR until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, woodworking, country music, and riding his Harley Davidson. He most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of Butternut, (4)children: James Wasko of Superior, Roseann (Mike) Larson of Solon Springs, Lori (Nick) Danz of Solon Springs, and Dawn (Rick) Homan of Mosinee, (5)grandchildren: Mackenzie (Dr. Kobena) McCarthy-Waters, Emily Wasko, Arianna Homan, Tyson Homan, Lily Danz, and Oscar Danz, his great-grandson Ezekiel Waters, his sister Charlotte Richter of Butternut, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joan Wasko, and his brother-in-law Howard Richter.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut on Friday October 17, 2025, at 11:00am. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara will officiate.
Interment will follow with Military Honors under the auspices of the Butternut American Legion Post.
A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00am until the hour of the service.
