Waltraud Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A. D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home - Downtown on Mar. 2, 2026.
Waltraud Schuessler (Schmitt) Young, 87, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026,

following a recent illness. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. C.

Milton Young, III, her parents and her brothers. She is survived by her stepsons, C.

Milton Young, IV (Karen), Lloyd M. Young (Angela) and Dr. Christopher Young (Melissa),

eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Waltraud was born in Heidelberg, Germany and immigrated to the United States in the

1960's, knowing little English and only her sponsoring family. She quickly learned the

language and found work at St. Joseph's Infirmary and later at Jewish Hospital in the

medical records department. These assignments took advantage of Waltraud's keen

eye for detail and impressive organizational skills. She later began working for Dr.

Young as his Office Manager, ensuring that medical billing and the day-to-day

operations of his practice ran smoothly. As the practice expanded to provide additional

services to the community, Waltraud was asked to assume new responsibilities like

managing a new service called DataType, which accepted dictation from customers and

transcribed it into documents. On July 4, 1987, Waltraud and Dr. Young were married

and continued working side by side in the practice for many years.

During her working years, Waltraud was active in the Zonta Club of Louisville, the M-

Squad of the Louisville & Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, the American

Association of Medical Assistants, the City of Louisville Mayor's Sister City Program, the

Louisville Personnel Association and the National Registry of Medical Secretaries.

Waltraud was also a huge fan of Lladro sculptures and porcelain figurines; she had a

vast collection and was a member of the Lladro Society.

Waltraud lived her final years at the Masonic Home in her beloved Louisville where she

was cared for and loved by numerous staff members.

The family will hold a private service of remembrance and Waltraud will be interred,

along with her husband, at Cave Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests

donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
