Wanda Marie Baer, a beloved member of the Indianapolis community, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on January 29, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Marie lived her life in the city she called home. Her extensive career as a nursing assistant demonstrated her unwavering compassion and commitment to helping others, traits that endeared her to many.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her husband David of 50 years; biogical children, Jimmy and Billie; other children, Peggy, Pete and Michael; grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Art Johnson; sister, Violet Whitsit; niece, Arla Mauller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Johnson and Peggy Johnson Capps; daughter, Evelyn; brothers, James and Bill Johnson; granddaughter, Elaine Green and many dogs that were her babies.
These cherished relationships defined much of her life, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate within her family and friends. Despite having only completed her education through the eighth grade, Marie possessed a wealth of wisdom and life experience that she generously shared with those around her. She loved sewing, painting and collecting dolls.
Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her professional life, making her a pillar of support to countless individuals. Marie had a remarkable ability to listen and offer comfort, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. As we remember her, we reflect on the profound impact she had on her family, her colleagues, and her community.
Memorial service to honor Marie will be on January 7, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood, with visitation from 12:00 pm until the time of service where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.
