Wanda Carpenter Obituary
Wanda was a daughter of the late Jack and Hazel Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband's: James Carpenter and Max Hughes; sister, Pauline Hughes; brothers: Charles Curtis Hughes, Clyde Hughes and Michael Hughes.
Wanda was a member of Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devoted homemaker who took great joy in cooking, canning, and working in her garden.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sherry (Gary) Willis of Newland, her grandson, Shane (Staci) Koerber; granddaughter, Jessica (Chad) Clark; and great-grandchildren: Chance and Chloe Clark, Kenzi and Mila Koerber. She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Guinn.
Wanda will be remembered for her quiet strength, love of home and family, and the care she showed to those around her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Greens and to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their compassionate care, kindness, and support shown to Wanda and her family.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026 in the Upper Hughes Cemetery off of Jerry's Creek Road in Newland. Rev. Dustin Hughes will officiate.
