Mrs. Wanda Ruth Shell Church, age 86, of Lansing, passed away Monday morning, November 17, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Wilkes County on September 18, 1939.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Warrensville Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Stone, Elder Kenneth Clark, and Pastor A.E. Shell officiating. Burial will follow in the Stephens Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 pm, one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Mrs. Church was the proud owner and operator of the Green Lantern Restaurant and Smithey's, where she was known as a hardworking, dedicated woman. She was an exceptional cook and loved serving her customers. In her spare time, Wanda enjoyed quilting and making crafts for family and friends, always showing her love and care through her creations. She had a warm personality and truly enjoyed being around people, making everyone feel welcomed and cared for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Frances Shell; a son, Allen Marley; two brothers, Paul Shell and Earnest Shell; three sisters, Darlene Winebarger, Irene Crews, and Geraldine Lane; and two infant siblings.
She is survived by her loving family: husband: Jerry Church; two daughters: Elaine Steele (Chris) of Wilkesboro and Ann Clark (Kenneth) of Lansing; a son: Eric Marley (Nikki) of West Jefferson four brothers: Raby Shell (Sandy) of Caldwell, Johnney Shell (Jan) of Caldwell, Jeff Shell of Wilkesboro and A.E. Shell, Jr. (Mary) of Caldwell; three sisters: Patsy Earp (Paul) of Florida, Mildred Church (Veron) of Caldwell and Kathleen Spencer of Caldwell; five grandchildren: Dustin Clark, Cory Clark (Mariah), Amy Calo (Justin), Becky Williams and D.J. Shew; ten great-grandchildren: Camden, Kayden, Brynleigh, Brooklyn, Gaberial, Finley, Lincoln, Marley, Elijah, and Evan; two special friends: Jack Grubb and Kay Craig; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers will be appreciated.
Wanda will be remembered for her loving heart, generous spirit, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Her legacy of family, friendship, and kindness will be cherished by all who knew her.
