Wanda Hayes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vessey Funeral Service - Fort Collins on Mar. 5, 2026.
Our dear mother, Wanda Joyce Hayes, went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2026. She was born on May 19, 1929 in Sloan, Indiana to Vaughn and Thelma Mowery. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Richard Glendon Mowery.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 8th, 2026 at 2:00pm at Vessey Funeral Home - 8760 6th St, Wellington, CO 80549.

She is survived by her two sons, James and Robert Hayes, seven grandchildren, Jed Hayes, Lisa Saling, Ginger Stover, Bobby Hayes, Joe Hayes, Heather Hayes and Tim Hayes and eight great grandchildren Caleb Stover, Bradey Stover, Aubrie Stover, Summer Hayes, Savannah Hayes, Isabel Saling, Sawyer Hayes, Vaughn Saling and her niece Phyllis Mowery-Racz.

Wanda became a born-again Christian at a young age at Marquette Manor Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois where she was a member for over 50 years. She joined Front Range Baptist Church when she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2003.

Wanda graduated high school from Gage Park High School in Chicago, Illinois. Her first job was at a Diaper Service Company. She was later employed by Ford Motor Co. in the Aerospace Division during the Korean War. Her last place of employment was at RR Donnelley Co. in Chicago where she worked for 32 years and eventually became the legal secretary for the company CEO. At age 66 she decided it was time to retire.

After her retirement she found joy in traveling all over the world with friends. Her travels included trips to Russia, the Holy Land, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and four visits to Thailand. Following her trots around the globe she decided she was ready to go back to work so she volunteered for the Poudre Valley Hospital system for almost 15 years.

Wanda's hobbies included golf and knitting. She also loved playing Five Crowns--a card game which she frequently won.

Though we grieve her loss, we rejoice knowing we will see her again because of the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ her Savior and ours.
