Wanda Shaw Sumpter Hudson passed away March 3, 2026. She was born August 11, 1936 to Garland Wesley and Juanita Bishop Shaw. She grew up in Throckmorton, Texas. During her senior year at Hardin-Simmons University she married Zeb Sumpter. They were married for 21 years and had two sons, Randy and Sam.
Wanda married W.B. “Bill” Hudson January 1999 in San Angelo. They were married for 22 years. Bill preceded Wanda in death in 2011. Her two sons, Randy and his wife Marsha and Sam and his wife Debbie survive her. Wanda is also survived by two granddaughters and their husbands and four great grandchildren, Brooke and Brody Boyd, Landry and London Groggel. Wanda is also survived by her sister, Valene Latham, niece Lanita Shaw Nickerson, her husband and two sons; three nephews and their families, two aunts and several cousins.
Wanda was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age. She loved her HABC church family. She served on different committees through the years and was the church treasurer for a time. Wanda really enjoyed gospel music. Attending the National Quartet Convention in Nashville two years and once in Pigeon Forge was among her fondest memories. Wanda loved working with the senior adults. She planned many trips/outings for the seniors of her church, some local and four special weeks in Branson. She and Bill delivered Meals to the Elderly for 12 years. They volunteered at Shannon Hospital where she accumulated over 6000 hours. She was proud to be a five gallon blood donor. She and Bill enjoyed playing bridge, 42, 88 with friends.
Memorial graveside will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2 p.m. in Throckmorton Cemetery.
