Wanda Lee Joy, born on October 12, 1934, in Conway, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, at the age of 91. A spirited and strong-willed woman, Wanda was known for her fierce love of family and her joyous spirit.
Wanda dedicated herself to her role as a school crossing guard with Springfield Public Schools, ensuring the safety of countless children. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Gladys (Womack) Montgomery, brother Charles Montgomery, sister Betty Ballard, three beloved children Delores, Pamela and Toby, and two sons in law Art and Brian. Wanda leaves behind a loving family who cherished her deeply: her daughter Janice Burnett, son Charles Gross Jr (Ruth), daughter Stephanie Schultz, and son in law Doug Durrington (Pamela); as well as her treasured grandchildren- Talena Gardner, Christal Mercado (Sergio), Amy Shepard (Brad), Bridget Gardner, Charles Gross III, Doug Durrington Jr, Joseph Douglas Jr (Christina), and Wendy Astrologo (Josh), as well as 18 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on November 14, 2025, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, starting at 12:00 pm, where friends and family can gather to reminisce and celebrate Wanda's life. The funeral service will take place immediately following at 1:00 pm, also at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. She will be laid to rest in Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
