Wanda Michaelis

     Wanda J Michaelis passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 16, 2025 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook Nebraska. She was 85. 

     Wanda was born on January 21, 1940 in Dover, TN where she lived as a little girl until her family moved to Lincoln, NE. Wanda graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School where she met the love of her life, Wayne Michaelis. Wayne and Wanda were married on May 23, 1959 they resided on a farm in Panama, NE where their three children were born. Wayne joined the Nebraska State Patrol and they moved to Lexington, NE for the first few years of his career and then on to McCook. Wanda was a homemaker until her "retirement" years when she worked at Degroffs then Walmart and USave as a product/food demonstrator. Wanda was a member of the United Methodist Church in McCook and the BPOE Does Elks Womens Club organization. She was a lifelong NY Yankees fan and loved watching the Huskers! Wayne and Wanda were big travelers; they made it to all 50 states stopping off and enjoying a casino every chance they could get. Wanda loved spending time with her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

     Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents, Arnold and Lockie Liska; her in-laws, CJ and Hazel Michaelis; and her brother-in-law, Leroy Michaelis.

     Wanda is survived by her three children, Dave Michaelis of McCook, Jay Michaelis of Kansas City, MO, and Brenda (Matt) Nebgen of Gilbert, AZ; her grandchildren: Kori (Neil) Hays Sterling CO, Drew Nebgen Gilbert AZ, Kyle (Lyndsey) Michaelis Akron CO, Jordan (Marcus) Shockley Kansas City MO, Danae (Trevor) Weisgerber Sterling CO, Dillon Michaelis McCook NE, Hailey Nebgen Gilbert AZ, and Madison (Nygel) Greene Kansas City MO; and her great-grandchildren: Myah Shockley, Benny Shockley Emmarie Hays, Vale Michaelis, Leon Michaelis, and Denver Greene.

     The Family of Wanda Michaelis will greet friends at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on October 24, 2025 any time between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. A private family inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook at a later date.
