Wanda Sue Peterson, a woman of deep faith and infectious joy, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2026. She was 51 years old.
Born on May 10, 1974, in Omaha, Nebraska, Wanda was the daughter of Neal Peterson and the late Candace Seidel (née Gustin). Her resilience and bright personality were evident from a young age; in 1979 and 1980, she made history as the Muscular Dystrophy Association Poster Child for Nebraska, becoming the first person to ever hold the title for two consecutive years.
Wanda lived her entire life with muscular dystrophy, and over thirty years ago she also suffered a traumatic brain injury. Despite these challenges, her spirit remained unshakeable.
In January 1988, Wanda moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where she later graduated from Fruita Monument High School. A devoted member of the Victory Life Church community, she found great strength and fellowship in her weekly Bible Study groups.
Wanda lived life with genuine enthusiasm. She was an avid Denver Broncos fan and could always be found cheering for her team. A true country music fan, she never missed an opportunity to attend a Country Jam concert, soaking in the melodies and stories of the artists she loved.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Candace Seidel.
Wanda's memory will live on through her father and step-mother, Neal (Sue) Peterson; her brothers and their families: Joe (Sara) Peterson, John (Lisa) Seidel, Rob (Marsha) Seidel, Keith (Shannon) Kaarstad, and Cody (Dillon) Kaarstad; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by members of her chosen family: Molly (Devin) Reuss, Sarah Keifer, James (Karen) Keifer, Jacob Keifer, Liam Reuss, and Olivia Reuss. In addition, Wanda leaves behind her aunts and uncles: Sandra (Matt) Titus, Mike (Kathy) Gustin, Judy Busselman, Scott (Thai) Gustin, along with many other cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins who will hold her in their hearts.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the many friends, caregivers, and community members who supported Wanda throughout her life and wrapped the entire family in love and encouragement along the way.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." — John 3:16, Wanda's favorite verse.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Wanda's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to Victory Life Church.
