Wanda Sumpter Obituary

Wanda V. Freeman Sumpter, age 85, passed away on Oct. 21, 2025 in Gun Barrel City, TX. Born on Sept. 26, 1940, in Oil Trough, Arkansas, Wanda retired from Garland ISD in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.

Wanda was a gracious individual, known for her deep love for her dogs and her commitment to her community. She was a 1958 graduate of Oil Trough High School, and the first in her family to matriculate.

Wanda was preceded in death by her father, William Walter Freeman; mother, Bertha Ward Freeman; husband, Gene Sumpter; sister, Zelma Pruett; brothers, Earl, Ervin, and Marlin Freeman; niece, Toni Freeman; and grandnephew, Tony Freeman.

She is survived by her nephews, David Pruett, Glen Freeman, and Darrin Jordan; nieces, Erma Pruett, Betty McHone, Debbie Webb, Judy Grenert, Kathy Beaird, Cindy Peters, Karen Campbell, and Kimberly Jordan-Miller; sisters-in-law, Margaret Freeman and Josephine Jordan; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Wanda were held at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, TX on Oct. 28, 2025. Her kind spirit and love for her furry friends will be missed by all who knew her.
