Wanda Jean White, 81, of Grove City, Ohio, left this world peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, wrapped in the love of the family whose lives she shaped so profoundly.

Born on December 16, 1944, in Logan County, West Virginia, Wanda entered life as a quiet light, one that would grow brighter through every year, every hardship, every joy, and every person fortunate enough to know her. She was the beloved daughter of Margaret (Madge) Fitchpatrick, and the eldest of five: Sylvan, Carrie Lou, Charles Howard, and Sheryl. She was very close with her aunts and uncles, Thurmond Fitchpatrick, Junior Fitchpatrick, Ersel Fitchpatrick, Sanford Fitchpatrick (Buddy), Herbert Fitchpatrick, Catherine Dowden, and Evelyn Linley. She was especially close with Buddy who loves her dearly.

She grew up in a family of coal miners, surrounded by grit, perseverance, and an unspoken understanding that love is shown through endurance, sacrifice, and showing up day after day. When her family moved to Columbus in the late 1950s, Wanda carried with her that mountain-born strength-the kind that stays soft even as it remains unbreakable.

On December 24, 1965, Wanda married Robert L. White, beginning a love story that lasted sixty years-a rare and precious achievement. Theirs was a bond built not on grand gestures, but on the tender, everyday moments that form a life: quiet laughter in the kitchen, shared glances across rooms full of family, and the comfort of knowing no matter the day, they would walk through it together.

Wanda was a devoted and deeply loving mother whose heart expanded with every child she welcomed into the world. She poured her strength, tenderness, and quiet wisdom into raising her sons Jefferey L. White and Stephen Douglas White. Wanda also carried within her the everlasting memory of her infant daughter, Lisa Michelle White, born and passed in 1968-a loss that shaped her with both sorrow and a heightened sense of how precious every moment of motherhood truly was. In 1988, Wanda welcomed Kathrine Farley-White as her daughter by marriage to Jeff, and later her grandchildren Jacob and Lauren, and their spouses Madeline and Cayden.

Wanda's love for her children was not simply expressed in the big milestones, but in the countless small acts of devotion that filled their lives: the late-night talks, the unwavering support, the steady presence at every performance or game, and the deep belief she held in each of them. She mothered with her whole heart-fiercely, tenderly, and without hesitation.

As a child, Wanda was rarely found without a book. Stories were her escape, her education, and her lifelong companions. As she grew older, she shared her passion with others-reading Stephen King novels as eagerly as she devoured each new issue of Reader's Digest. She was curious, thoughtful, and endlessly interested in the world around her.

Wanda spent much of her career in hospitality, where her natural kindness and attentive spirit made her unforgettable. She served at the Holiday Inn locations on Stringtown Road and West Broad Street, later managing the country-western bar "Kickers," where she became known as the steady, smiling, fun loving presence guiding both patrons and staff.

She continued her work at Shoney's and Cracker Barrel, gaining more friends than coworkers, because Wanda never let anyone feel like a stranger.

Her final chapter of work was perhaps the most meaningful: serving as a cook for Southwestern City Schools, including at Buckeye Woods Elementary School. There she became a source of comfort and familiarity for countless students. A warm smile in the cafeteria, a soothing presence during uncertain days, a quiet hero in a role that often goes unrecognized.

In retirement, Wanda embraced life with the same enthusiasm she gave everything. At the E.L. Evans Senior Center, she built deep friendships, played cards with competitive delight, and became an unexpected Wii Bowling champion. She took trips to see plays at the Ohio Theatre and riverboat rides that made her feel young again. She and her friends even "adopted" a youth soccer team, cheering loudly from the sidelines as their honorary "Team Grandmothers."

Wanda was a devoted Cleveland Browns fan-pacing, cheering, and wincing her way through every game. She also loved attending Ohio State Women's Basketball games with her neighbor and dear friend, Vikki Stoneking. These outings weren't just events; they were moments of connection that fed her soul.

She was unwavering in her support of her children: attending Jeff's theatre productions and sporting events, then cheering on Steve through his football years and later his coaching career at Grove City High School. Wanda didn't just attend; she was present-fully, emotionally, wholeheartedly.

Above all else, Wanda lived for her grandchildren, Lauren and Jacob. They were her heart. She was there for every milestone, every performance, every game, every ordinary moment. She filled their childhood with fishing trips, visits to parks, spontaneous adventures, and endless encouragement. She traveled with them to tournaments and on vacations, creating memories that defined their childhoods and shaped their lives. Through thousands of photographs, Wanda captured their story-ensuring that their shared moments would never fade.

In their retirement, Wanda and Bob continued to spend their days together. Laughing, traveling, sharing friendships, and simply enjoying the life they built. Bob always knew how to make her smile, and she always knew how to soften his day. Sixty years together is a gift-one they never took for granted.

Wanda leaves behind a legacy defined not by accolades, but by the depth of her heart. She was soft but strong, humble but wise, quiet but powerful in the ways that matter most. She lived with intention, led with compassion, and loved without limits.

Her warmth lingers in the memories she created. The stories she shared, the laughter she sparked, and the family she loved with everything she had.

Wanda's life reminds us that the greatest impact often comes from gentle hands and generous hearts.

She was-and remains-deeply, unquestionably loved.

Friends may call at the O. R. WOODYARD COMPANY CHAPEL 1346 S. High Street on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 4-7 pm where the funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Obetz Cemetery.
