Wanda Jannette Young

Wanda Jannette Young, age 83, passed away on December 27, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas, at The Springs Memory Care, surrounded by family.

Wanda was born on January 10, 1942, to Laverl and Dewell Chew, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in Hico, Texas, where she attended Hico High School. She was also preceded in death by her siblings.

She was the devoted wife of Bill Young, with whom she shared 35 years of marriage, and the loving mother of Larry Knapp (Glenda), the late Marty Knapp (Valerie), and twin daughters Tanya Dvorak, (Perry) and Tracy Euhus.

She was a proud grandmother to Justin Knapp (Amber), Kacie Self (Matt), Mackenzie Knapp (Ciara), and Ashlin Dvorak, and a cherished great-grandmother to Mason Self, Miles Self, Adeline Knapp, and MacKinley Knapp. Wanda especially loved spoiling her grandchildren, who adored her deeply.

Following high school, Wanda became a hairdresser, a career she practiced for many years in Ballinger, Texas. Through her work, she touched countless lives—offering not only her skill and creativity, but also kindness, conversation, and encouragement. Her chair was often a place where others felt heard, cared for, and uplifted.

Family was the center of her life. She loved cooking and entertaining, and her meals were legendary—especially during the holidays, when she prepared generous meals that brought her family together around her table.

Wanda also had a natural sense of style and grace. She took pride in her appearance, loved fashion and shopping, and was always beautifully put together, reflecting both her outward elegance and inner warmth.

She had a deep love for plants and flowers and found joy in nurturing them. Wanda was also a gifted seamstress who lovingly sewed clothing for her twin daughters. Her beautifully made outfits were often the envy of other schoolchildren, a memory that still brings smiles and laughter to those who remember it.

In her quieter moments, she enjoyed watercolor painting, watching movies, and reading.

Wanda and Bill shared a deep love of travel, including journeys through Canada and Mexico and a memorable adventure traveling the Alcan Highway to Alaska. They also cherished spending their summers in Creede, Colorado, escaping the Texas heat by traveling there in their RV with friends for many years and enjoying the mountain air and beauty of the Rockies.

During the winters, they followed warmer weather, traveling throughout South Texas with friends and spending joyful time in Mexico, especially in the Puerto Peñasco area near Baja.

Wanda lived in San Angelo, Texas with her husband Bill.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff of The Springs Memory Care who provided such heartfelt care and warmth over the last few years and to Concho Hearts Hospice for their compassionate support and care that brought comfort during this time.

Her gentle spirit and loving heart will never be forgotten and will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Harper Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
