Warren D. Scoby

Warren D. Scoby was born in Urbana, Ohio to Warren William and Allegra Waunita Scoby on August 9, 1941. He was raised in Mechanicsburg, Ohio until his family moved to LaBelle, Florida due to his father’s health. He quit school to support the family and help with finances. His favorite job when he was young was when he worked for the US Geological Survey as they surveyed the Everglades.

He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years where he received his GED and a two-year degree. He received a Purple Heart for injuries during the TET offensive. Being stationed several places in the states and Europe. He took his mom and two brothers as dependents so they could have medical benefits through USAF. He worked a short while at Bosch Oldsmobile after finishing Automotive School at Val-Tech. He then worked for ITT/Specialty Stamping/Masco for another 20 years. His last employment was Habitat for Humanity for 10 years. He loved all his jobs because he liked talking to people and joking with them. He was known for his quick wit and cutting-edge humor. He loved the church. He became a communion minister, worked with parish life for 20 years and served on the church board for a year.

His parents are both deceased. As well as five of his brothers and sisters, Francis Robinson, Vivian Parsley, Betty Allen, Edward Scoby and Don Scoby. He is survived by his wife, Pat, two children, Tisha Scoby and Richard (Kristin) Scoby and four grandchildren, Drew, Brooklyn, Matthew and Christopher and two step-grandchildren Barkley and Judd. His sister Marge Conway (Tigard, OR) and two sisters-in-law, Rosito Scoby (Havelock, NC) and Pat Mixer-Scoby (Rio Verde, AZ). Plus, many nieces and nephews.

He met Pat in Austin, TX and they married and spent four years in England where both Tisha and Richard were born. They came back to Austin and then came to Valdosta where he retired from USAF. He truly worked hard for his family sometimes working 2 to 3 part time jobs in addition to his full-time job. One part time job was selling Amsoil where he had a booth at Thunderbowl Speedway where he often took the kids along. He bought both kids older cars and fixed them up for them, so they both received cars for their 16th birthdays.

When the kids were in high school he and Pat both worked the Lowndes High School Band Booster Club. He started the “band wagon” for kids to get a drink after practice and the money went back into the Booster Club to help kids with expenses for band trips. He also served as vice president of the Booster when Tyson McLane was president.

He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and worked bingo for years, worked the Tootsie Roll Drives to collect money to give to handicapped, and after the hurricanes he collected donations to take to relief sites starting with Biloxi.

He worked the Jimmy Carter build for Habitat for Humanity where they build 100 homes in one week here in Valdosta. He also made a trip with Jimmy Carter to build homes in South Africa.

He received the 2010 World Class Supervisor and Employee from First State Bank & Trust for his work with Habitat. He also received a proclamation from the city of Valdosta for the same work and they designated Warren Scoby Day.

Needless to say, he worked hard for good causes. He was a good man and enjoyed traveling with the Happy Travelers until health didn’t permit it.

Although we hate to say goodbye we know he has gone to a better place. Jesus will welcome him as well as his parents and siblings. Plus we know we will meet again someday.

The visitation and rosary will be Sunday, March 1, 2026 from 5pm-7pm at Carson McLane Funeral Home. The funeral will be Monday, March 2, 2026 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 1pm and the funeral beginning at 2pm. Burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, time and date to be determined.
