CMSgt (Retired U.S.A.F.) Wayland B. Davis of Freeport, FL. passed away in the early morning hours of October 15, 2025 at the age of 86. Wayland was born November 01, 1938 in Northampton County, NC., and he was a son to the late Dosia Elizabeth Jones Davis and Ira Leroy Davis. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Song C. Davis, son Christopher Davis, son Jason Davis and wife Andrea Davis, son Devin Davis, sister Shirley Lewis, and multiple grandchildren.
After graduating from Conway High School, NC., Wayland enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957, where he had a full and distinguished career as part of the Civil Engineering Squadron (Prime Beef, Red Horse 554th, 823rd) serving multiple tours of duty, mostly overseas including (3) tours of duty to Vietnam during wartime. In 1987, he retired as a CMSgt of 30 years at Hurlburt Field A.F.B. in Okaloosa County, FL. Since retirement, he has spent his time dedicated to his children and family, taking them to various events such as baseball games, martial arts classes, swim classes, as well as volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America.
A private graveside service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery with Pastor Bob Murphy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer any gifts to be made in the form of donations to your preferred children's charities or charities helping military veterans of all the Armed Forces.
The Davis family would like to take this opportunity to thank the many wonderful nurses, doctors, case managers, pastors, and other support staff of hospice, as well as the Veterans Administration and its many staff members, without whom this time would have been made much more difficult. Finally, we would like to thank Heritage Gardens Funeral Home and its professional staff for helping us navigate our loved one's final arrangements during our time of grief as we say our final goodbyes.

An American flag flies low today
An American veteran has passed away
REDHORSE stands with salutes held high, rifles fire, a lone bugle cries, a flag is folded, soft words are spoken.
Love ones mourn, hearts are broken
The American flag flies low today,
CMSGT Waylon B Davis, an American Hero has passed away.
