Wayne Bernard Batchelor was born on December 12, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Fannie Lou Batchelor (Ms. Sue) and the late Willie Lamar. He is preceded in death by both parents, three brothers, Larry Gene, Jimmie Lee and Eric Charles; and two sisters, Alice Marie and Karen Denise.
Wayne was a devout Christian. He was born again at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in 1972. He demonstrated his Christian walk serving others in loving kindness. Not only was Wayne a good military soldier, but more importantly, he was a devout Christian soldier; he served on the ministry of Help Team assisting in the Transportation Department.
Wayne graduated from Mitchell High School in 1981. He was an excellent student and a skilled basketball player. Wayne always had a love for basketball. He would challenge anyone who thought they could beat him. Also, he was a superstar on the Military Teams. While serving overseas he often played with the local talent.
Wayne chose to further his education and training by serving his country. On December 2, 1981, Wayne joined the United States Army where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. While in the Army, Wayne received many awards: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksman Badge Rifle, Air Assault Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge.
When confronted with this physical attack, being diagnosed with cancer, there were many physical battles he fought head on; never wavering in his faith, but as a battering ram, he never showed fear, for his goal was to not leave here until his race finished. Now he is fully experiencing his divine health that continues to profess the Gift Jesus purchased for him over 2000 years ago. We salute you mighty Warrior.
On October 24, 2025, Wayne denounced his last physical laugh on this side and is now residing in heaven, laughing with his early and heavenly makers. Although, we no longer hear him telling jokes, clowning or laughing anymore, his friends and loved ones will live off the countless memories and good times he has left behind.
Wayne was a companion, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He leaves to cherish his memory: his sons, Wayne Jr., Wayne III, Mike and Donte; daughter, Dejah; grandchildren, Wayne IV, Nasiah, Aneea, Wayne III, A'nylah, A'zariah, Ayden, Kayleb, Christian, Zach, Tyler, Synayia and Aubree; his sisters, Shirley Jean, Sandra Washington (Ernest), Doris Ann and Nadine; close nephews, friends, special caregivers and friends, and a very special friend and companion, Dione.
We will remember and continue to tell his jokes as we carry his legacy forward in our lives
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 10:00am-11:55am with a Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00 noon both will be held at Mt Pisgah Baptist Church 3636 Weaver Rd, Memphis, TN 38109.
Internment will be Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 11:00am in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, TN 38125
