Wayne Boehm Obituary

Published by Davis Greenlawn Funeral Chapels and Cemeteries on Jun. 4, 2016.
Wayne Lee Boehm, age 78, succumbed to pneumonia Sunday, June 4, 2016 at 4:12 AM in his beloved hometown of Sugar Land, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Louis Boehm and Eura V. Brock Boehm, and his older brother Carlos R. Boehm. Wayne is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Jean Kruse Boehm, sons Wayne Lee Boehm, Jr. (Michele), and Robert Lewis Boehm II, daughter Jennifer Lyn Kocich (Danny). Grandchildren Benjamin, Jessica and Stephanie Boehm & Ryan, Jenna, Riley and Sophie Kocich. Brothers Ray L. Boehm (Eva) of Houston, TX and Jerry O. Boehm (Yvonne) of Arlington, TX, sister-in-law Gloria Boehm and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends. He was born June 19, 1937 in Sugar Land, Texas. For a time, he lived in Houston, but then returned to Sugar Land where he graduated from Sugar Land High School in 1955. He was a proud Gator who loved being an offensive guard for the great Kenneth Hall. He attended South Texas Jr. College at Houston and Baylor University at Waco, Texas. Wayne served our county from 1960-1962 as a U.S. Army Specialist 4th Class at Fort Skelly, Regensburg, Germany. He received a Marksman Badge and Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged. His career at Imperial Sugar Company spanned 47 years during which time he worked as a Carton Machine Operator, Bacteriology Lab Helper, Bench Chemist, Shift Mechanic Helper and Welder/Pipefitter. He promoted and exemplified spotless attendance and safety records and he received several awards for excellent performance. He participated on the City of Sugar Land Planning Commission, NALCO Citizens Advisory Panel and Sugar Land Employee Federal Credit Union (Board Member and President), he volunteered numerous years for Sugar Land Little League Baseball and Sugar Land Cowboys Football. He was known as the coach who went out of his way to ensure that every child who wanted to play was able to do so. Wayne loved dancing with his Rosenberg Girl. They enjoyed long car rides and going out to eat. Some of their favorite spots were Christie's in Houston, The Monument Inn and Chick-Fil-A, but the top of his list was Larry's Original Mexican Restaurant in Richmond. He anticipated decorating his yard every holiday. All the children in the neighborhood knew the best candy was at his house on Halloween and they rushed to beat his grandchildren there. He took pictures of each one who knocked on their door. His grandchildren were the light of his life. His calendar was color coded to ensure he attended every academic and extracurricular activity. He cheerfully helped shuttle all of them between those activities! He loved spending time with friends and playing golf, photography and growing roses. The family thanks the staff at Saint Luke's CHI, Sugar Land Methodist Hospital and Kindred Hospital for their valiant efforts and support during his fight with pneumonia and they are especially grateful to Doctors, Oolut, Nair and Opara for their compassionate and loving care. Also, special thanks to Danny & Carol Terral and Michael & Keli Sharpe for their steadfast support for Wayne and his family. Services at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel 3900 B.F. Jeannie and the Boehm Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. I will always treasure the many times Wayne, Benny, Johnny (Gator), Pee Wee, Lupe (Bear), and I played golf. We weren't that good, but we had a hell of a good time. Much more than a cousin I lost, I lost a hell of a good friend. You could always count on Wayne to make you laugh. Don't get me started on all the dances we went to. Our "CUZ" will surely be missed. Jeannie, Lee, Jennifer, Bob and all the Boehms-We love you.
