Wayne "Bozo" Colby, age 71, passed away on July 6, 2025, in the cherished surroundings of his beloved lake. He was born on April 22, 1954, in Amarillo, Texas to Edward and Joy (Nugent) Colby. Wayne’s life was marked by both unwavering dedication and profound love for his family, the outdoors, and his work.
In 1980, he married Carol Ehlert. Their union brought forth three children: Travis (Lu), Rebecca (Kyle), and Jenny (Butch).
Wayne dedicated 45 years of his life to MinnDak, retiring in 2020, a testament to his commitment and industrious nature. Beyond his professional life, he found immense joy in mowing the greens at Balmoral Golf Course and embraced the responsibilities of being "the boss" at Lakeside RV Resort. His love for lake life defined his retirement years, providing him with a backdrop to create lasting memories. In the winter months Bozo delivered parts for Parts City in Breckenridge
Wayne's culinary talents were well-known, particularly his famous chocolate chip cookies and the deer meat he prepared. He was gifted with one liners and small talk, once you met him, he was forever your friend. He had a special connection with Carol’s daycare children, who adore him still to this day.
He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1973 and went on to build a life centered around his proudest accomplishment—his family. Wayne is survived by his devoted wife, Carol; his children, Travis (Lu), Rebecca (Kyle), and Jenny (Butch); and his treasured grandchildren, Will, and Zach (Tatiana), Brady, Vin, Ethan and Cooper, He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Annalise and Kehlani, who were a source of joy in his later years. Wayne is also survived by his sisters, Teeko (D'Ann) Colby and Ellen (Brad) Bollinger. Walker, Parker and Brooke Busse were like his own and he cherished the special relationships with them each.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Joy (Nugent) Colby, his sister Lona, as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, father-in-law Robert Ehlert, brother-in-law Robert Ehlert, and sister-in-law Carrie Jo.
He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him. A visitation will take place on Friday July 11, 2025, at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 7PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday July 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, leading into a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. (although we should all be at the lake)
