Wayne Cruz-Keawe, known to many as Chapo, lived a life that was funny, handy, adventurous, and full of heart. He was born on August 22, 1999, in Texas, and he passed away on April 17, 2026, in
Waianae, Hi. leaving behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love that reached far beyond the places he called home. He lived with the kind of energy that could turn an ordinary day into a story worth telling twice, and he carried himself with a spirit that made people feel like they had known him forever.
He is survived by his mother, Cassandra Keawe, his father, Roy Cruz-Keawe, his aunty mom, Samantha, his uncle dad, Clarence. He also leaves behind his siblings Regina, Roy, Shirley Ann, Cassandra, Rondie, Aliiokekai, and Lucan, along with his hanai siblings Jonathan, Chasteen, Clarence, Camron, and Clayton. His daughters, Hayzlyn-Love and Lilinoe, were among the brightest parts of his world, and his girlfriend, Irie, shared in the love and life he gave so freely. His family was a wide and meaningful circle, and he was the kind of person who made every branch of that circle feel strong.
Wayne attended Nanakuli High School, where he built the foundation for the hardworking, capable man he became. He later worked as a master mechanic at Jiffy Lube, where his skill, confidence, and ability to fix what others could not made him invaluable. He had the rare gift of being able to solve problems without making a big production out of it, although he probably would have made a joke while doing it. He was the kind of man who could look at an engine, a situation, or a bad day and say, in effect, "Give me a minute," and somehow make everything better.
His work ethic was matched only by his personality. Wayne had a natural way of making people laugh, often without even trying. He was the type of person who could walk into a room and instantly change the mood, not because he demanded attention, but because his humor was honest, quick, and impossible to ignore. He had the kind of comedic timing that made even the most serious people crack a smile. If life handed him a problem, he usually handed it back with a grin and a joke. He understood that laughter was not just entertainment. It was survival, medicine, and a way of reminding people that joy could still exist even in difficult times.
Wayne loved fishing, diving, body boarding, working out, cruising in his truck, and making memories with the people he loved most. He was happiest when he was near the water, in motion, or surrounded by the people who mattered to him. He appreciated the simple things that made life feel full, like a good ride, a good laugh, and a good day spent doing what he loved. He had the adventurous spirit of someone who was always ready for the next story, the next challenge, or the next excuse to be outside where the sun, salt, and wind could do their work. He lived with a sense of freedom that was both inspiring and unmistakably his.
As a Christian, Wayne carried faith in his own way and found strength in the values of love, family, and perseverance. His life reflected a heart that cared deeply, even when he did not always say it in the softest way. He showed love through presence, through effort, through protection, and through the kind of loyalty that does not need a speech to be understood. He was a son, a father, a brother, a partner, a nephew, and a friend who made his people feel seen, and that is a gift that cannot be measured.
Those who knew Wayne will remember his laugh, his hands, his humor, and the way he made ordinary moments feel memorable. He had the rare ability to be both the helper and the comedian, the one who could fix what was broken and then make everyone laugh about how it broke in the first place. He was the kind of man who left behind stories that will be retold with smiles, head shakes, and a little disbelief, because some people are simply too lively to be summarized in a few words.
One of the best ways to describe Wayne is to say that he lived like he understood the joke of life without ever losing respect for its meaning. That balance of humor and heart is what made him unforgettable.
Wayne Cruz-Keawe's life was far too short, but it was lived with purpose, personality, and a whole lot of style. He will be remembered for his humor, his hands-on skill, his adventurous nature, and the love he gave to his family and friends.
He leaves behind memories that will keep people laughing, stories that will keep people talking, and a presence that will be deeply missed. Though his time here ended too soon, the impact he made will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him most
