Wayne Frase Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2024.
Wayne Milton Frase, born on August 22, 1930, in Hamburg, New York, to Glen and Marion Frase, passed away on August 12, 2024, in Portland, Oregon, just shy of his 94th birthday.

Wayne's life was marked by a deep devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ, a love for his family, and a lifelong commitment to pastoral ministry. After completing his undergraduate studies at Taylor University (1952) and his theological training at Fuller Seminary (1955), he dedicated his career to pastoral work. Wayne was the founding pastor of Rialto Community Baptist Church (1956-1965) and Peninsula Baptist Church in California (1965-1985), before concluding his pastoral career at Gladstone First Baptist in Oregon (1985-1992). Even after retiring in 1992, he continued to serve the pastoral community at Hinson Memorial Baptist Church teaching and caring for the large adult Sunday School class for many years. Wayne also served as a board member for both Denver Seminary and for Nursing Home Ministries, and enjoyed singing in a gospel quartet.

Wayne's personal life was equally rich and fulfilling. He married his college sweetheart, Jacqueline, in 1951, who preceded him in death earlier this year. Together, they raised a loving family and are survived by their children, Rebecca Pintard, Steve Frase (Jennifer), Jeniffer Thalmann, and Andrew Frase (Daw); along with grandchildren Bryson, Ashley, Amber, Erika, Hannah, Poupei, Sompoo, and Katie.

Known for his joyous spirit and love for Jesus, Wayne had a profound ability to connect with others, offer encouragement, and share his deep
knowledge of the Bible. His hobbies included playing baseball, where he excelled as a starting pitcher during his college years and briefly played professionally (but chose to persue ministry instead). Wayne also enjoyed golf, fly fishing, singing hymns, and eating a good meal. Alongside his wife, he traveled extensively, leading tours for a Christian tour company (The Philidelphians) and visiting missionary friends worldwide.

Wayne's final years were spent worshipping at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church, where his life and contributions will be celebrated on August 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service, allowing friends, family, and community members to share memories and honor his legacy.

I was always the "girl on the blue bicycle" to Pastor Wayne Frase. I used to visit him when I was in Jr High and he was physically building Rialto Community Baptist Church, and just talk - sometimes asking questions...he was always encouraging.
I kept going to that church...growing from the teaching and the friendships. He performed our ceremony when Dean and I married. We kept in contact over the years and visited with he and Jackie whenever we were traveling where they were.
He performed a vows renewal for us on our 50th ten years ago...and we saw them last year in their new home in Oregon. I am so happy we got to see them before they both went Home to our Lord and will miss seeing their smiles and being reminded of "the girl on the blue bicycle."

I started going to Rialto Community Baptist when I was in 8th grade. We had a great youth group and I remember going to the mountains on a Saturday morning for breakfast. He would take his fishing gear to fish while we all messed around in the water down stream.
He married me and my first husband Frank Ringgard in 1966. We went to his house in Palo Verde Estate. He married us in his living room. Jackie baked us a cake.
My second husband and I went to visit him and Jackie about 5 years ago. I sure did love them. They were the epitome of what a Christian is. Rest in peace Pastor Wayne.
