Wayne D. Gibbons was born in
Blairs Mills, PA on June 1, 1951. He was the son of the late Hilda (Parson) and Paul Gibbons. He passed away on March 27, 2026, at home, where he wanted to be, with family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Serena K. (Rice) Gibbons. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, December 20, 2025.
Also surviving are his 3 children, Shawn (Kelly) Gibbons, Marissa Gibbons (fiancé, Robert Eddy) and Stephanie (David) Stouffer. He was blessed to have 4 grandchildren, Hunter (Mandy) Gibbons, Chase Gibbons, Brody Stouffer and Fawne Ryder, and 2 great grandchildren, Eleanor and Luke Gibbons. Additional survivors include his siblings, Bonnie Johnson, Judy Robinson and Roger Gibbons.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ronnie Gibbons, Darwin Gibbons, Charles Gibbons and Timothy Gibbons. He missed them terribly and often shared memories about them growing up and their hunting adventures.
Wayne graduated from Southern Huntingdon High School in 1969. He was drafted and served his country from 1971-1973 in the US Army, stationed mostly in Germany.
He then worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he retired from in 2006, with 35 years of service.
Wayne loved German Shepherds and had several during his lifetime, along with beagles (rabbit dogs.) He leaves behind his terrier, Tiny, "The Princess" and Cub, his German Shepherd.
He loved sports, played baseball, then turned to softball for several years, usually at shortstop.
He loved to hunt in younger years, turkey, deer, rabbits and squirrels. He enjoyed listening to his son, Shawn and grandchildren, Hunter, Chase and Fawne share their hunting adventures. Brody didn't hunt, but they shared a love of mowers, that they enjoyed.
The family have wonderful memories of spending time at their "cabin down the hollow" with friends and family camping there, too.
Wayne loved being at home. Watching the wildlife, the neighbors farming and our view of the mountain. He spent a lot of time watching westerns and college sports on TV.
He and Serena always planted huge gardens of vegetables, so they could can some of their harvest and put in the cave, and share the excess with family and friends. Eventually achy joints interfered with the large gardens.
He was dearly loved and will be terribly missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Amberson Valley Church, 18889 Amberson Road, Spring Run, on June 6, 2026, beginning with Military Honors at 2 PM, followed by a service with Pastor Darwin Goshorn and Ed Greenawalt participating. Following the service, the family will receive friends during a time of fellowship and luncheon in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in his memory to the Fannett Metal Fire & Ambulance Co., PO Box 51, Dry Run, PA 17220. Agett-Lakjer, Spring Run www.agettlakjer.com
