Wayne Henderson Obituary
Wayne LeRoy Henderson, 85, Union, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church and surrounded by his loving family, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025.
Wayne was born July 15, 1939 in Union, to Arthur and Grace (nee Dearing) Henderson.
Wayne grew up in Union, and graduated from Union High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Pelster on April 23, 1960, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Union. The couple made their home in Union and their marriage was blessed with four children.
Wayne enjoyed a successful career as a highway inspector with the Missouri State Highway Department. After 38 years of dedicated service to the Highway Department, Wayne retired in 1996. Wayne enjoyed spending his time golfing, fishing, bowling, and participating in card clubs with friends. He loved family gatherings and spending time with his family members and friends by his side.
Wayne's wife, Mary Ann, passed away on Oct. 5, 2007. He was blessed to find love a second time in his life and was united in marriage to Carol Strubberg (nee Massmann) on April 16, 2011. Through their union, Wayne's family grew to include Carol's five children. Wayne was a longtime, active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Union, and a third-degree member of Knights of Columbus Mathaushek Council 1576, Union. He was also an honorary member of American Legion Post 297.
Wayne was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Henderson; his parents, Arthur and Grace Henderson; one grandchild, Aaron Morgan; one great-grandchild, Maxwell Henderson; and one brother, Bill Henderson.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 14 years, Carol Henderson, Union; two sons: Paul Henderson and wife Janet, Washington, and Dcn. Keith Henderson and wife Christine, Union; two daughters: Cynthia Henderson and husband Ed, Florida, and Mary Beth Morgan and husband Ron, New York; his wife's children: Dave, Jane, Steve, Nancy, and Ed; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Moore, Alabama; one brother, Bob Henderson, Union; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Union, with Rev. Peter Blake officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Masses, Knights of Columbus Council 1576, or Immaculate Conception School.
The Henderson family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
