Wayne A. Lamoreux, 76, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on March 26, 2026, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials can be directed to St. Judes Children’s Hospital in memory of Wayne.
Wayne was born on August 30, 1949, to parents Baynard and Helena (Kopera) Lamoreux. Wayne graduated from Mason City High School, NIACC and Trinidad Junior College in Trinidad, CO.
Wayne was united in marriage to Sheila Palensky on August 30, 1970. They shared 55 years of marriage together. Wayne worked at Winnebago and then went to work for Holcim Cement retiring after 35 years when the plant closed.
Wayne was an avid outdoorsman whether hunting, fishing or just walking in the woods. He would always return home with a story of his times outdoors, a different hunting area to explore, a new place that would eventually be a new hunting spot to try. Wayne didn’t give up his time outdoors even as it became more difficult to walk. He would always say “I just stop then start again."
He enjoyed introducing kids to archery. He was a self-taught taxidermist and arrow smith. Wayne made wooden arrows for the Ted Nugent Kamp for Kids program last year. Each participant received 4 arrows to take home that day. Wayne’s dream to hunt in South Africa did come true on several visits.
Wayne is survived by his wife Sheila and his brother, Roger Lamoreux of Irma, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents Baynard and Helena Lamoreux, an infant sister, Marlene and his son Matthew in infancy.
