Obituary published on Legacy.com by Caring Cremations - Chicago on Feb. 4, 2026.
Here we remember and celebrate the life of Wayne Ernest Maki Sr., whose legacy was marked by devotion to his country, love for his family, and a spirit of adventure that touched many hearts. Wayne passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2026, at the age of 80, leaving behind a lifetime of memories for those who knew him.

Born on December 19th, 1945, Wayne was a man of integrity and honor. His early years were shaped by the values and work ethic which he carried with him throughout his life. Wayne's dedication to his nation was evident through his service as a Navy veteran, where he proudly served on the USS Sperry 697.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Edith Maki, whose memory remained a beacon of love and partnership in his heart. Together, they raised two sons, Wayne Maki Jr. and William Maki. He was a devoted father, imparting wisdom and sharing in the joys and challenges of parenthood. Wayne also leaves behind his dear sisters, Ingrid and Lucy, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond, forged in childhood experiences and sustained throughout their lives.

Wayne's zest for life was most apparent in his love for travel and adventure. Whether it was a family vacation or a solo journey, he embraced the opportunity to explore the world and create new memories. His adventurous spirit was contagious, and he often inspired others to step out of their comfort zones and experience the beauty of the world.

As we bid farewell to Wayne Ernest Maki Sr., we reflect on a life well-lived-a life filled with service, and love. His legacy will live on in the stories told, the values he instilled, and the memories cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Wayne's journey through life was a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit, and he will be deeply missed.
