Wayne Norman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 11, 2025.
Earthly struggles for Wayne L. Norman, Sr. ended on August 8, 2025 as his soul passed to God's heavenly
kingdom.

Wayne was born December 19, 1931 to Manual and Nora Norman in Pilot Point, Texas.
He lived his early years in that area and worked alongside his parents in the cotton fields as a young
child. When he was a teenager, the Norman family moved to Borger, Texas where Wayne attended and
graduated from Borger High School. Later, as an adult with a family, he attended classes at Frank
Phillips College.

Always industrious, Wayne worked as a caddie at the Borger Country Club and then for the Morley
Theater while he was in high school. At the Morley Theater, he started as a ticket taker and work his
way up as usher and finally as a projectionist.

Wayne worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for many years. In his "spare" time, he apprenticed as a
Carpenter/Cabinet Maker under his Father-in-Law, A.S. Bond. After leaving Phillips, Wayne made his
mark in Stinnett as a General Contractor/Builder. He built the Stinnett Bank building (now Inter Bank),
the grocery store, the Apache Drive-In, the building currently housing the Education Credit Union, the
Sunday School annex to the United Methodist Church, as well as many single-family homes. In 1967,
Wayne purchased the Stinnett White's Auto business. He ran the White's Auto business until his
retirement in 1975.

Wayne and his wife, Sylvia, spent many summers in South Fork, Colorado, where he loved to fish. He
tied flies, built custom fly rods, and taught a class at the South Fork Community Center on "How to
Catch, Clean and Cook a Trout". He enjoyed teaching children how to fish.

Wayne was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Stinnett where he was a Deacon. He
served in that role so long that they named him "Deacon Emeritus".

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Leon; his sisters, Christine Smith and Inez
Crow; daughters Kathleen Banks and Rebecca Beams; and grandson Cody Conaway.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sylvia; son, Wayne Norman Jr. (Albert); daughters Mary Bowman
and Susan Hornsby (Scott); bonus sons Larry Conaway, Mac Conaway, Gary Conaway (Laura); 16
grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be held at the Stinnett First Christian Church on Saturday, August 16,
at 10 am.
