Wayne Leon Sanders

Wayne Leon Sanders, age 93, born on February 27, 1931, in Greenwood, Johnson County, IN, peacefully passed away at his home on July 2, 2024, in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend to many. Wayne's legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family.

Throughout his life, Wayne carved a successful career path in the trucking industry. In 2013, he retired after many years of operating Sanders Trucking Co. His commitment to his work was unwavering and earned him the respect of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Wayne served his Country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Wayne found joy in simple pleasures. He had a passion for fishing and golfing, often spending quality time at Gene's Garage and Welch's Riverside Restaurant with friends and loved ones. His warm smile and kind spirit will be greatly missed by all who shared these moments with him.

Wayne leaves behind a legacy that will forever be remembered by his surviving family: daughters Pamela K. (Don) Polston of Fairland, IN; Patti Mefford of Carrollton, KY; Christina Sanders Abades of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; son Perry Wayne (Nancy) Sanders of Shelbyville, IN; along with 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to his surviving relatives, Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 46 years, Doshie Sanders, and a daughter, Paula Jo Adkins, a son,  Lawrence Ray Sanders  and a granddaughter Carolyn Sue Mefford.

A visitation in honor of Wayne Leon Sanders will take place on July 6th, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home located at 809 Highland Ave in Carrollton., KY. Following the visitation will be a heartfelt Funeral Service starting at 1:00 PM at the same location.   Burial will take place in the Campbellsburg Cemetery in Campbellsburg, KY.  Military Honors will be presented at the graveside by the Carrollton American Legion Post #41 and the United States Army Funeral Detail Team. These events serve as a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate the remarkable life that Wayne lived.  Burial will be in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

Wayne will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him best. May he rest in peace knowing that his memory will continue to live on through the stories shared by those who loved him dearly.
