Wayne G. Scantlen Jr., 87, of Baytown was born April 14, 1921 in Austin and passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 in a local hospital. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. He retired from Rohm and Haas and was a U. S. Army Air Corps WWII veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Scantlen; brother, Earl Scantlen; and sisters, Merle Scantlen and Eloise Godwin. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Connie Scantlen and daughter and son-in-law, Ettie and Larry Hurst, all of Baytown; sister, Mildred Spinks of Rusk; grandchildren and spouses, Julie and Nathan Roe of Plano, Allen and Ellen Hurst of College Station, Jimbo and Kathy Wells of Mont Belvieu and Tony Wells; and great grandchildren, Hannah and Natalie Roe and Rebecca Wells. Graveside services will be Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedarcrest Cemetery with Jack Hall officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Second Baptist Building Fund, 500 E. James, Baytown, TX 77520. Arrangements are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX, 77521 (281) 422-8111.
