Wayne A. Smith

Age 74, passed away on Sunday February 15, 2026, at Palos Hospital. Born on November 14, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, Wayne grew up on the south side of the city, where he formed a foundation of values that would shape his life.

Wayne proudly served as an Army Veteran, embodying the dedication and service that defined his character. He always put family first, a testament to his loving nature and the importance he placed on those closest to him.

An avid sports fan, Wayne found joy in cheering for the Bears, Cubs, and following Nascar events. He embraced life with enthusiasm, particularly when it involved his interests in sports and travel. One of his proudest accomplishments was his love for traveling, especially during weekends spent at the camper in Wisconsin.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Elizabeth Smith (nee Trull), children: Joseph (Lina) Smith, Michael (Amanda Bradley) Smith, daughter-in-law Jacki Smith, grandchildren: Logan, Gianna, Everleigh, siblings: Walt (Debra) Smith, Deedee (Matthew) Moran, Diane (Linas) Slavinskas, Patricia (Curt) Schultz, Debbie (Jim) Dybas, Carol Multack, Larry (Debra) Smith, Richard (Virginia) Smith.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Evelyn Smith, son Brian Smith, sister Therese Frietag

The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 9AM until time of funeral service at 12PM. Interment will take place following service at St. Mary Cemetery in Mokena, IL.
