Died: December 5, 2023 in Rockford, IL
Wayne L. Whalen, 83, of Princeton, formerly of LaMoille, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton with Msgr. James Kruse, officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley. Visitation will be held 10:00-10:50 AM on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Mr. Whalen was born April 12, 1940 in Spring Valley to Lester and Crete (Hoscheit) Whalen. He enjoyed working on the family farm with his dad when he was younger, which lead to a great love of animals and nature. Later, he worked at WalMart and Monical's in Princeton for many years. Mr. Whalen was a resident at Gateway Services, Princeton and a very active member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton. He was always very happy and would help anyone in need. He was known for his hugs and infectious smile. His family affectionately called him the "man with a million smiles."
Survivors include cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and other family members, including a special cousin, Donald J. Whalen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of Strays, Princeton or 2nd Hand Ranch & Rescue, Princeton.
