Wayne Elmo Wright, 91, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2025. He was born in Scott County, VA to the late William Harvey and Jennie Bellamy Wright. Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P. during the Korean War. He retired from Holston Defense in 1993 after 33 years of service. Wayne was a member of State Line Baptist Church for over 40 years and later attended Bible Baptist. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Wright; sisters, Louise Benton, Geri Benton, Joyce Frazier; brothers, W.H. and Lester Wright.
Survivors include his daughter, Tammi Wright; son, Michael Wright; granddaughters, Rachel Harrington, Danielle McDavid, and Courtney Hagy; grandson, Hunter Wright; great-grandchildren, Russell, Hallie, and Max Harrington, Adler Wright, and Herbert McDavid; along with a host of friends and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 12pm to 2pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at State Line Baptist Church in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Walter Wagner officiating.
A graveside service will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery with Hunter Wright, Nick Harrington, David Carter, Colton McDavid, Jonathan Cook, and Mark Hagy serving as pallbearers.
