Wendell R. Lewis Sr., 90, of Markleysburg, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2025, surrounded by family and under the compassionate care of Amedisys Hospice. He was born November 22, 1934, in Fairchance, PA, son of the late Albert and Roberta (Hughes) Lewis.
Wendell's life was defined by his kindness, commitment to service, unparalleled work ethic, and deep dedication to family. Joining the United States Navy in 1951, he proudly served aboard the destroyer USS Corry DDR-817 until his honorable discharge in 1955. "Lou" operated Lewis Tires Sales, worked as an EMT for L&L Ambulance Service, CAS and METS, and in "retirement" found great joy driving shuttle for 20 years at Nemacolin Woodlands.
Wendell was a respected member of the USS Corry DD/DDR 817 Association, Amvets Post 103, American Legion La Fayette Post 51, Ft. Necessity Lion's Club, and the Markleysburg Henry Clay Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as Secretary. He was also an assistant scout master for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 689 Markleysburg.
Wendell is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wilma Marie (Couch)Lewis; his children Charlotte "Radar" Lewis, Wendell "Buck" (Jennifer) Lewis, and Larry (Shelley) Lewis; cherished grandchildren Zachary (Alicia) Lewis, Anjalena (Kevin) Karas, Joshua (Rachel) Lewis, and Jonathon (Justyce) Lewis; and great grandchildren Hunter, Kaydence, and Emaline. He is also survived by his sister Carol (late Arthur) Paull and faithful feline companions Tula, Jett, and Panther.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and send a special thank you from Wendell to Dr. Sajid Peracha, Jessica Del Sardo, PA-C, Eric Zdrojkowski, RRA, Kaylee Myers RN and Penny Martin for their exceptional loving care.
Arrangements are under the direction of the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, FARMINGTON, PA. All services will be held privately.
