Wendell Ray Reece passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. A Celebration of Life is planned at a later date.
Wendell was born February 8, 1941, in Independence, IA to Vernon and Clara (Thompson) Reece. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing and canoeing the Wapsi River, hunting, target shooting and bird watching. He also loved hunting treasures at garage sales and auctions. He was full of stories that he loved to share with everyone. Wendell retired from CRANDIC Railway after 35 years.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Catherine (Sattizahn) Reece; Children: Teresa (Paul) Shuff of North Liberty, Barbara (Brad) Sleep of Cedar Rapids, Brett Reece of Toledo, IA, Jackie Taylor of Solon, and Randy (Jenny) Reece of Cedar Rapids; Grandchildren: Marc Diaz and Emily (Sage) Eckman, Troy and Kyle Sleep, Grant and Caleb Reece, Reece and Morgan Taylor, Caden, Ella and Maggie Reece; and a Great Grandchild, Libby Sleep along with many more extended family.
Wendell is preceded in death by his parents.
In honor of his faithful companion, Ace, memorial contributions may be given to SAINT Cat Rescue & Adoption Center, 1200 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
