We echo all the lovely remembrances. We met Wendell almost 30 years ago when we bought his house. As you all can imagine, it didn't take long to play 'six degrees of separation' and wonder why we hadn't met before! What a wonderful gentleman! So glad to have known him all these years. And, yes, a West Hartford treasure.

We first met Wendell through the Trinity Club of Hartford where he was past President, and, as with everything he cared about, found him to be a warm, welcoming and loyal supporter.
When Don, Class of '69, and I got married in 1978, we were not allowed to have a non-sectarian service in the Trinity Chapel.  Wendell, a Justice of the Peace among his many other talents, married us in a lovely ceremony on campus in Hamlin Hall.  After which he never missed an opportunity to tell us that of the many marriages he performed over the years, only three (by his last count) were not still together: an enviable record indeed!
Wendell of course made sure we became kidney donors, and he never failed to regale us with his encyclopedic knowledge of all things West Hartford (and beyond), including the family tree and entire history of the house we first bought on Asylum Avenue.  His steel-trap memory was absolutely prodigious!
We always said that when we lost Wendell, we would be losing an irreplaceable archive, and now, sadly, we have.
In this era of coarseness and casual expletives, we will always remember this wonderful gentleman's courtesy, kindness and exquisite manners; someone whose most shocking outburst was, "Oh, my, my, MY!!"
We will miss you, Wendell, and yes, 36 years later, we're still married!
With fondness and sympathy,
Connie and Don Reder

We will miss Wendell and his way of caring about people by his presence and his willing participation in many events. He had a memory to be envied and the most incredible knowledge of the Town of West Hartford. Wendell could also tell you most people's family history and their connections to others. He was scrupulous and loyal. He was the unofficial "dean" of the town Republican party, keeping tabs on procedural niceties, and supporting countless candidates and their strategies. Wendell was a consummate gentleman, a wonderful conversationalist and a great friend.

Wendell was such a decent, gentle man. Met him 31 years ago when I was new to the RTC. He was always such a pleasure to speak with and always had something nice to say. RIP.
