After a hard-fought battle with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer, Wendell Ussery, age 66, left us on December 9, 2023, with his family by his side, at St Luke’s Magic Valley Hospital. Only a few days before his birthday, he decided the party would be better in Heaven.
Wendell, the youngest of four, was born to Junior and Velma Ussery in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Marion High school (Iowa) in 1976. After graduating, he moved to Southern Idaho where he met his future bride, Vicki Terrell, at Buhl Free Will Baptist Church. Wendell and Vicki started dating in 1978. Later, they were married in Billings, Montana in 1982.
He worked multiple different jobs throughout his life. The one he seemed to have enjoyed the most was showing movies in a theatre. However, he dedicated most of his years (approximately 30) to Green Giant/Seneca. After Seneca closed their doors, he chose to go to college for a time. After going through multiple rounds of ammunition for target practice just to get through math, he decided it wasn’t for him. Afterwards, he went to work for Chobani, where he retired.
His interests throughout the years consisted of family, woodworking, gold panning, camping, fishing, and traveling. He could always hear the mountains calling his name. His life was rich in travel. He made countless road trips across the states with his family. His dream was to visit the Great Pyramids in Egypt. In 2009 he was able to cross that off his bucket list. Within the last year and a half, he made two trips to Hawaii. However, his most recent dream come true was his Harley! Anytime the weather warmed up, you could hear him coming down the road from a distance.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Velma.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Vicki; their 3 children, Joshua (Jaci) Ussery, Jessica (Jay) Chester, and Caleb Ussery; 6 grandchildren, Madyson, Lexi, Jazlynn, Jaidah, Jackson, and Gavin; his brother, Wayne (Charlotte) Ussery; and sisters, Wanda (Larry) Bird and Wilma Marberry.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Jerome Free Will Baptist Church, 810 S. Cleveland Street, Jerome.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Wendell’s memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.
