Wesley W. Werkheiser, 84, of Pocono Pines passed away on March 4th, 2025, surrounded by loving family. Born on September 13th, 1940 in East Stroudsburg to Pearl Marsh Pearson and Woodrow Wilson Werkheiser, he spent his childhood with his grandparents, George and Lillian Marsh. Wes graduated from East Stroudsburg High School in 1958, where he was a member of the school's first league championship football team. He went on to major in Business at Wagner College where he met the love of his life, Nancy. Wes and Nancy enjoyed 51 years of marriage together before her passing in 2015. Wes enjoyed an illustrious career in the insurance industry, working at Colonial Life and US Life. Community-minded and generous, Wes was a member of the Pocono Lions Club, where he was awarded with the foundation's highest honor, the Melvin Jones Fellowship. An avid golfer, Wes could always be found with friends after a round at the Timber Trails Golf Course. His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family, and he will be lovingly remembered by his children and grandchildren, with whom he shared his love of sports and poker.
Wes is survived by his son, David Werkheiser and his wife, Amy of Scotch Plains, N.J.; daughter, Laura Hancock and her husband, Paul of Brookfield, CT; sister, Connie of West Chester, PA; six grandchildren; Andrew (Jillian), Kristina (Erick), and Kim Hancock, Carly (Tyler), Kelsey, and Alex Werkheiser; great-granddaughter; Annika Hancock; and seven nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29th at 11:00am at the Salem United Church of Christ, 108 Church Street, Pocono Pines, PA. A luncheon will follow at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse, 135 Miller Drive, Pocono Pines, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wes's memory to the Pocono Lions Club PO Box 899 Pocono Pines, PA 18350.
